Doll: Female, oldest in the group of women. Has a lot of experience in the realm of the playhouses and seeks to give advice to Nell wherever she can.
Nell: Female, naïve and young. Desires to be an actress. She is willing and able to take any job that will pay her more as she continues her dream to become an actress.
Mrs. Farley: Female, More conservative than the other actresses. Comfortable with where she is.
The Earl of Rochester: Male, a drunk. Womanizer. Tries to teach the actresses a thing or two about acting.
Otway: Male, Messenger for Mr. Betterton and the King. Operates the playhouse for Betterton.
Mrs. Marshall: Female, older than Nell and Mrs. Farley. Does not care for Nell. An actress for Mr. Betterton. A loyal employee at the playhouse.
Mrs. Betterton: Female, wife of Mr. Betterton, who owns the playhouse. Very defensive and loyal to actresses. Wishes things were different but accepts the situation. Also an actress.
Mrs. Barry: Female, wants to work for Betterton’s playhouse as an actress.
